The Revue de l'euro is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the economic and monetary integration. This article presents its objectives, its editorial line and the bodies responsible for its management.
A journal dedicated to the Economic and Monetary Union
From 1987 to 2000, the journal titled "ECU" then "ECU/EURO" accompanied the process of economic and monetary integration. Directed at the time by Pierre Guimbretière, the journal offered in-depth "live" analyses about the issues raised by the negotiation and establishment of Economic and Monetary Union, bringing together academics, experts and civil servants, all specialists in the various aspects of EMU: legal, economic, political and historical. The authors often perceived well before the others the weaknesses as well as the opportunities of the monetary, economic and financial arrangements under discussion or adopted. In 2000, after a last special issue on the European Central Bank, the journal suspended its activity, considering its work completed.
The events of recent years have shown that the creation of the single currency in January 1999 did not mark the end of the process of economic and monetary integration. It opened up a new era marked by economic, legal and political challenges that were to a large extent unprecedented and insufficiently examined and discussed. Today, as in the past, the Revue de l'euro has a main objective: to support the process of European economic and monetary integration and to contribute actively to the scientific and public debate on EMU. The journal aims to be the place and the support for a critical and constructive reflection on the functioning of the euro area, covering all its dimensions: economic union, monetary union, exchange rate policy and international relations, prudential policy, banking union, capital market union, the social dimension, institutional governance.
An interdisciplinary and multilingual forum for discussion
The journal welcomes contributions in French or English from the academic community as well as representatives and experts from institutions interested in EMU: central banks, Treasury departments, regulatory authorities, professional associations, etc. In addition to the publication of original articles, the journal will progressively re-edit all the articles published between 1987 and 2000, i.e. almost half a thousand contributions, in an enriched format.
The journal is interdisciplinary and open to contributions in public and private law, micro- and macro-economics, political science, political philosophy,...
Finally, the journal aims to be responsive to the issues raised by the main actors of EMU, i.e. central banks, ministries of finance and European institutions. In this perspective, partnerships will be envisaged with interested public institutions to publish in a privileged way the reflections of their departments (studies & research, legal service, international relations,...).
A journal of high scientific standards
The journal publishes original contributions of high scientific quality. Articles are submitted for a double-blind peer-review.
The format of the articles will be kept short (5000 words). Each issue will address a specific topic.
